What is an EA, AP or PP?

EA means ‘épreuve d’artiste’ and in English the term AP stands for “artist proof”. These terms came from the traditional graphics like stone lithografie and etching. The edition size was based on the good prints an artist could make with these techniques. About 10 percent of prints that had not the good quality of the edition was hand corrected by the artists and signed as EA or AP which makes these prints more special for the collectors.

PP stands for printers proof. These are the very first prints and artists and his master printer made. Those prints can have a different size and are used to do the color corrections.

Normaly 10 percent of an edition size can be signed and sold as EA. Certified Art Giclee guarantee that no more copies are made then mentioned on the certificate.

About Certified Art Giclee

Giclee printing is a relatively new digital printing technique with high quality standards. A master printer can create superior-quality prints using this technique. Giclees are made on an individual basis instead as part of a mass edition like lithos. The market for giclee and fine art prints is growing but there is a big difference in quality.

Certified Art Giclee™ is the European standard for superior quality giclee prints. It is a hallmark for high-quality, limited edition giclee fine art prints created by Giclee Master Printers who are members of the GPE foundation (Giclee Printers Europe).

The Certified Art Giclee™ hallmark makes it possible to recognize quality. Professionals, collectors, artists and museums use it to distinguish between original, high-quality giclees and prints of an inferior quality.

Certified Art Giclees™ are created by true craftsmen and each master printer makes use of the most advanced techniques, highest quality materials and best suitable inks. The result, a combination of all these factors together with the craftsmanship of the master printer, who has knowledge of the finest details of the process of giclee printing, is astonishing.

Tests of Ardenburg and Wilhelm Research shows that our Certified Art Giclees keep their original quality for over a 100 years which make them archival. That is why we provide our unique lifelong warranty to the original buyer.
